back in the 1920s when he was working in Levee camps and cotton fields of the Delta , I assure you that there werE many many 100+ degree days ..there wasn’t google then to blame it on cars ..and global warming …. there weren’t any cars ..to speak of..these guys just tuffed  it out and didn’t cry ..
